Step into the emerald shade and discover the serene, hidden heart of the east coast.

Bras d’Eau is the hidden green heart of Mauritius’ east coast, offering a serene escape into a landscape of towering mahogany trees and volcanic ruins. This national park is a sanctuary of peace, where the air is cooler and the pace of life slows down. It is the perfect experience for those who want to discover the island’s unique biodiversity away from the crowds.

The Hike

The trail winds through an atmospheric forest, transitioning from exotic eucalyptus and mahogany groves to patches of rare native flora. As we follow the shaded paths, we explore the ruins of an old sugar mill and water tanks, where nature has slowly reclaimed the stone. The terrain is mostly flat and accessible, making it an immersive walk through history and nature rather than a strenuous climb. Along the way, I will help you spot the rare Mauritius Paradise Flycatcher, a bird found nowhere else on Earth.

At the Lake

A highlight of our journey is reaching Mare Sarcelles, a tranquil wetland and lake surrounded by mangroves and volcanic rocks. This is a rare ecosystem in Mauritius, where the silence is only broken by the rustle of the trees and the calls of endemic birds. It is a moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate the raw, untouched beauty of the island’s interior.
